HarrisData Launches New Web Site Using PHP and Zend Framework on the IBM i Platform
Brookfield, Wis. (PRWEB) June 11, 2009 -- HarrisData announced today the launch of its improved and redesigned web site, http://www.harrisdata.com, which uses the popular web development language PHP, Zend Framework, and Zend's run-time application environment on the IBM i platform. HarrisData's new site features real-time information updates for visitors, faster and more powerful tools for site developers, and the security and reliability of IBM i for site operations.
"The combination of Zend and IBM i lets us combine cutting-edge web technology and functionality with the reliability and security of the IBM i platform," said Lane Nelson, president of HarrisData.
PHP has quickly become the most popular language for web developers, with over 20 million websites currently running PHP. HarrisData used PHP and Zend Framework to convert its static website, which has content that had to be changed manually, to a dynamic site that can now be updated much more easily and efficiently. By using PHP, HarrisData no longer needs to continually republish its site to keep information fresh and new.
"Our web site proves that the combination of PHP, Zend Framework, and the Zend - IBM i platform is a winner," Nelson said. "Our customers now have online access through our public web site to the valuable information they need from existing HarrisData ERP and CRM applications running on the IBM i."
PHP further allows HarrisData to more easily maintain the look and feel of the site. To help make PHP for web development much faster, safer, easier and more maintainable, HarrisData chose to use PHP and Zend Framework on the IBM i platform.
"Zend is seeing increasing numbers of ISVs, from leading providers on the IBM i platform like HarrisData to other software vendors delivering PHP applications on various operating systems, all benefiting from the cross-platform Zend application environment for PHP," said Jim Dillard, IBM and business alliances manager for Zend Technologies.
"HarrisData's end-customers are clearly benefiting from the more reliable, secure, and high performance customer portal application they now access on top of Zend's stack on IBM i," said Dillard.
HarrisData utilized the IBM i platform, which is known for its highly reliable architecture, and Zend's application environment infrastructure, to build an efficient, results-oriented customer engagement site with PHP and the reusable modules in Zend Framework.
"IBM started working with Zend more than three years ago to bring a new option for web application development and deployment to our IBM i community, a new option with millions of deployments and millions of trained developers," stated Craig Johnson, IBM i Product Manager, Power Systems. "HarrisData has been an early adopter of the PHP technology and with their use of innovative Zend Framework on the IBM i platform they are delivering even better service to their customers."
HarrisData further plans to use PHP, Zend and the IBM i featured in its successful web site as a launch pad for its next generation software.
"The strength of the IBM i, PHP, and Zend environment are great tools in which to build applications for medium-sized businesses. HarrisData is committed to using the tools in our own applications to build high-powered ERP and CRM applications for these businesses," said Nelson.
